Manufacturing Documentation Engineer

Department: Direct Labor
Location: Lumberton, NJ

Summary:  This position will generate cable and electronic assembly product build documentation which meet AS9100C and IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class C requirements. Through collaboration with Production, Engineering, and Quality, the Candidate will analyze production needs for the product manufacturing process and determine the best production work center procedure, equipment need, or requirement.

Upon product specification review, production build instructions and standard methods will be generated. Candidate will work directly with management, design engineers, production, inspection, test and quality personnel, and occasionally customers, to successfully document, build, improve and utilize lean manufacturing techniques.

The MDE will report directly to the Production Operations Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Oversee the activities associated with the planning, development, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes and operations for new and existing products, working closely with design engineering.
  • Oversee the Development of copper, coax and fiber, cable and electronic assembly manufacturing build instructions and step by step assembly router
  • Collaborate with management to develop strategies to increase portfolio of products and streamline customized builds.
  • Oversee the application and improvement of manufacturing processes, test plans, tooling databases, equipment maintenance, calibration methods and work cell optimization.
  • Develop tooling, molding, fixturing, and harness boards and validate through measurement and test.
  • Prepare documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, workflow optimization, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to transform a proposed assembly into a buildable project.
  • Provide information to and work with Engineering Production Support to develop and document first article builds and WPIs.
  • Maintain a level of clear understanding of processes, methods and tool use on the Production floor by providing regular trainings and updates.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Electrical Connector and Cable expertise
  • Background in assembly instructions, manufacturing equipment, tooling and fixturing for production builds which range from customized low volume to standard product high volume requirements
  • Familiarity with IPC-A620 Standards
  • AS9100C Quality Management Standards (QMS) knowledge
  • Lean manufacturing experience
  • Team player
  • Flexible

Requirements:

  • 4 yr college degree in Manufacturing, Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering and 10 years equivalent experience minimum
    • Electrical connector, fiber optic and cable/harness assembly a plus
    • Electronic packaging assembly a plus
    • Aerospace & defense experience a plus
    • AS9100C/ISO9001:2008 or IPC/WHMA-A-620, Class 3 experience a plus
  • Excellent with MS Office, Outlook, Excel
  • Excellent comprehension of engineering drawings and test procedures
  • Proficient in utilizing Enterprise Management System (ERP), P21 preferred, other similar ERP programs acceptable
  • Proficient in 2D & 3D CAD – AutoCAD or Creo preferred, other similar programs acceptable
  • Proficient in training and presentation
